Car Park Resurfacing Project, Gridline Indoor Karting Centre, Lincoln

17 March 2025

At CS Paving & Surfacing, we take pride in delivering high-quality surfacing solutions tailored to the unique needs of our clients. Last week, we had the pleasure of working on a tarmac resurfacing project at the Gridline Indoor Karting Centre in Lincoln.

Project Overview:

We were approached by the client to carry out the resurfacing works of their old and worn car park. The project involved complete reinstatement to restore the surface to a high standard. The team focused on enhancing both the safety and functionality of the area, providing a durable, long-lasting surface for ongoing use.

The Process:

  1. Site Preparation: To begin the resurfacing process, we first focused on preparing the site for the new tarmac. The existing surface was swept thoroughly to remove any loose tarmac chippings, which would interfere with the integrity of the new layers. This step was crucial to ensure a clean and stable base for the upcoming work.
  2. Planing and Reinstating the Base: Next, we planed out the old surface to remove any irregularities and ensure that the base was level. The old surface was removed to a suitable depth, and we reinstated the base to create a smooth, stable foundation for the new tarmac. This step was vital to ensure that the new surface would have the necessary support and longevity.

  3. Lifting Iron Works and Regulating the Area: We lifted the iron works and regulated the surrounding areas to manipulate the falls effectively, ensuring that rainwater would drain off the surface efficiently. Proper drainage is essential to prevent water from pooling which could lead to slippery conditions or damage to the surface over time.

  4. Applying the Tack Coat: To ensure the new tarmac bonded well with the existing surface, we applied a tack coat. This bituminous layer acts as an adhesive between the old and new surfaces, providing long-lasting durability and reducing the risk of delamination over time. The tack coat is an essential part of the resurfacing process, ensuring that the new surface adheres securely and performs optimally.

  5. Laying the New Surface: The final step was the application of 40mm of 6mm SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt). This high-performance surface material is perfect for car park areas where durability and smoothness are crucial. The 6mm SMA provides a strong and resilient surface.

Final Touches:

Once the new tarmac was laid and compacted, we inspected the car park to ensure that the work met our high standards of quality and safety.

We’re thrilled with the results of this resurfacing project at Gridline Indoor Karting Centre, at CS Paving & Surfacing we specialise in delivering tailored surfacing solutions, and our team is always ready to tackle even the most complex projects with precision and expertise.
